Union members have more rights in almost every aspect of their work lives than non-union workers. Make sure that you have a copy of your contract, talk to your shop-steward about your concerns, and are involved in your union -- the union is only as strong as its members!
One of the most significant protections is that you can't be disciplined or discriminated against without a good reason (and, even then, you have a right to appeal). This is why union members are able to speak freely at work, without fear of losing a job or getting assigned to a bad job or shift. This website has information on unions, how to build a union, and the rights of union members.
